My first Guest blog post. Here’s a taste:

In war there are always those moments where it becomes abundantly clear what you’re fighting for.

A Room Full of Porchmonkeys? by Kali

So the previous post is not the entirety of the reasoning behind the title. I’m just gonna come out and say it.

We’re black.

Now, that is not to say that I think that we as black people are monkeys. But it is to say that a lot of people do. And I for one, plan on making fun, calling out, and laughing at racism in these blogs. So to me, the title is a fucked-up way to acknowledge the perspective of the blog. We are black kids, and we are gonna talk about issues like race in a way that is not always gonna be PC. At the same time I think there’s also a post racial element to calling a blog authored by black kids “A room full of monkeys”, but at the same time I think the way it’s being used is still racially conscious.

I could bullshit a lot more on why I like the title, but really I like it for two reasons:

1) I think it’s funny.

2) It’ll push your buttons.

Whatever you think of the title you’re gonna think something. It’s provocative, and hopefully it’ll get us some hits.

Owen is not necessarily of the same opinion as I am, and when it came down to race and the blog’s header things got interesting. Here is the original header I made, featuring the indistinguishable faces of the rap group Tanya Morgan.

Owen then changed it to this.

This is a blog created by three rising filmmakers in order to document the thoughts, observations and happenings that shape their lives and their work. While we have grown up in the the same community from a young age, we often have a difference of opinion which we do not plan on hiding. The discords can sometimes be caused by irrational stubbornness which may resemble “A Room Full of Monkeys” but they always end with us coming together to produce something we’re proud of.

And it will take much less than 1000 years.
